Chocolate Orange Drizzle Cake Recipe

Recipe created by Amy Sheppard

You’ve heard of lemon drizzle cake – well this is the orange version…with the very welcome addition of dark chocolate!!
The lovely citrus flavours of a drizzle cake, with the richness of the chocolate is amazing. If you like it even more orange-y you can swap the dark chocolate for orange flavoured chocolate! Try this Chocolate Orange Drizzle Cake Recipe

Method:

Heat the oven to 180C

Place the flour, sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder, orange juice and zest into a large mixing bowl. Use a hand whisk to mix until you have a smooth batter.

Stir in 100g of chocolate pieces until evenly dispersed.

Grease or line a 2lb loaf tin and pour the batter in, giving it a gentle shake so that it’s even.

Bake for 35 – 40 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Carefully push a narrow knife into the middle of the cake. If it comes out clean, then it’s ready!

Mix the juice of half an orange with 2 tbsp of caster sugar. Microwave for 1 minute.

When the cake is still warm and in the tin. Make a few holes in the cake (don’t go all the way to the bottom)

Carefully pour the orange syrup over the cake so that it runs into the holes.

Remove the cake from the baking tin and place it on a cooling rack until completely cooled.

Break the remaining chocolate into cubes. Place in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring each time until it’s melted (don’t do it for longer or it will burn)

Drizzle the chocolate over the cake and leave to cool before serving
